For over 17 years, HDC Nepal has dedicated itself to improving education in rural areas. The goal is to raise awareness and promote social change, which includes offering vocational training for girls, out-of-school children, and young adults who lack access to education. Programs like ECDS, CLC, Girls- SAMVAD, and proper educational infrastructure have been effectively established by HDC Nepal.

Agriculture employs around 66% of the population and makes up about 36% of the GDP. As a result, HDC Nepal focuses on agricultural growth as a key factor in strengthening the national economy. They support a market-driven approach to enhance income and living conditions for underprivileged communities. HDC Nepal places tremendous emphasis on inclusive economic growth through agricultural development, value chain development and inclusive business (VCD-IB), livelihood diversification ensuring food security, reducing gender disparities, and greater inclusion of disadvantaged groups. HDC Nepal empowers communities by encouraging high-value, market-driven crop production.

Many rural Nepalese still lack access to clean and sanitized water sources, which leads to health concerns. HDC Nepal takes action by constructing uncontaminated water stations near community settlements. They implement Wash programs using sustainable service initiatives (SSI) to guarantee sustainable water and sanitation management. To educate communities about health rights and disease prevention, HDC Nepal sets up health posts providing easy access to information and medical supplies.

For over 17 years, HDC Nepal has been dedicated to developing and implementing community-driven rural infrastructure projects like paved paths, schools, health centers, and drinking water tanks. These initiatives have directly benefited over a million people. The community addresses these needs by utilizing local resources as much as possible. The construction of these facilities is led by the local government and community members. HDC Nepal has helped build 30 kilometers of agricultural roads, 20 school buildings, 8 cooperative and community spaces, 2 bridges and culverts, as well as more than 13 drinking water systems. They've also assisted in constructing 5 health posts and have received several awards for their contributions to CDI.

Floods are a powerful natural force that erodes agricultural lands and human settlements. HDC Nepal has been a member of the LWF-funded Nepal Emergency Relief Fund (NERF) since 2007, managing emergency relief supplies in Morang and Jhapa. In the past, HDC Nepal carried out the Water Induced Disaster Risk Reduction Project (WIDP) in collaboration with Shapla Neer. They adopted a river basin approach called "One River One Community Approach," which covers all communities living along the Kankai River from upstream to downstream. The project aimed to strengthen the disaster resilience of these communities. Community-Based Disaster Management Committees (CDMCs) actively participate in construction and planting projects. These committees also oversee disaster risk reduction activities such as notifying people about potential hazards using sirens, mobile phones, or other means to ensure safety during disasters (e.g., moving to higher ground or securing important documents and medications).

Nepal's society is incredibly diverse with 125 unique social groups identified by caste, ethnicity, religion, and language. The UNDP-backed LGCDP was a project designed specifically to focus on people from geographically remote and marginalized caste groups like Dalits (considered untouchables in the Hindu caste system), Janajatis (Indigenous ethnic groups), single women, and individuals with special abilities (PWD). These programs have successfully encouraged women to step out from the confines of their homes, challenging traditional restrictions placed on them. As a result, their involvement in community awareness centers (CACs) has transformed them into productive household members, community leaders, and entrepreneurs achieving social and economic empowerment.

HDC Nepal works on numerous activities aimed at raising awareness and empowering underprivileged and marginalized communities. They organize and mobilize these communities to claim their rights and fight against detrimental socio-cultural practices. The USAID-funded Girl- SAMVAD Program coordinated hundreds of social campaigns confronting trafficking, discrimination, and other forms of violence in Morang and Jhapa. Consequently, over 85% of the girls involved felt confident enough to protect themselves from child marriage, trafficking, and other societal taboos. These social mobilization efforts have also contributed to improved governance and service delivery at the local level.
