Introductoin

HDC Nepal, a non-profit and nonpolitical organization, was founded on April 5, 2005, in the former Budhabare Village Development Committee (VDC), Ward Number-9 (now Budhashanti Rural Municipality, Ward Number-3), located in Jhapa district and its Head Office is located in Birtamod Municipality Ward Number-5.

Focusing mainly on Jhapa and nearby districts, HDC Nepal began offering vocational training and skill development programs to vulnerable young adults in 15 former Village Development Committees (VDCs) of the Jhapa district back in May 2005. With support from various donors like the Lutheran World Federation (LWF), a renowned and one of the oldest international humanitarian agencies operating in Nepal, these efforts spanned over three years.

Additionally, from January 15, 2006, until July 15, 2006, HDC Nepal collaborated with government agencies such as the "Sip Bikash Karyalaya" (Skill Development Office), a government chapter dedicated to skill development. Furthermore, HDC Nepal has been overseeingcommunity - based cooperative initiatives that benefit over2300 low-income and entrepreneurial households. From January to March 2007, HDC Nepal collaborated with the Chemonics/ USAID/ Office of Transition Initiative (OTI) program in Jhapa to support peacebuilding and community stabilization efforts. HDC Nepal has carried out similar initiatives working with the Chemonics/USAID/Nepal Transition Initiative (NTI) program UNHABITAT, Give2Asia, the Provincial Government , Municipalities Government of Nepal.

From its inception with the DDC under the Local Good Governance and Community Development Program (LGCDP) with assistance from the UNDP in Jhapa till its conclusion in December 2017, HDC Nepal has worked for more than ten years. Under the guidance of the UN-HABITAT Global Sanitation Fund Program (GSF), HDC Nepal conducted a comprehensive Open Defecation Free (ODF) campaign throughout Birtamod. In a similar vein, HDC Nepal has collaborated with the UNDP's Micro Enterprises Development Program to foster social mobilization and the growth of local entrepreneurs. At the moment, HDC Nepal concentrates its efforts primarily in Eastern Nepal. HDC Nepal has implemented a project “Preparing and combating the impacts of new variants of COVID-19 in Nepal” Project in Jhapa and Morang with the support of Give2Asia. Additionally, with funding assistance from Steamboat Ventures Social Enterprise Fund through Give2Asia, HDC Nepal has been carrying out the "Community-Based Disaster Preparedness Efforts in South Eastern Nepal" Project in Jhapa and Udayapur as well as the "Micro-Finance and Women's Entrepreneurship in Eastern Nepal" Project in Jhapa, Udayapur, and Sankhuwasabha districts.

Working Clusters

For over 17 years, HDC Nepal has dedicated itself to improving education in rural areas. The goal is to raise awareness and promote social change, which includes offering vocational training for girls, out-of-school children, and young adults who lack access to education. Programs like ECDS, CLC, Girls- SAMVAD, and proper educational infrastructure have been effectively established by HDC Nepal.
